Elements Play hard drive not recognised

Hi all, new here so sorry if this has been posted previously.

I have an elements play 1TB hard drive model WDBAACC0010HBK. i stored on here a number of family videos and photos, including my wedding video and photos a number of years ago.

Recently after a family bereavement i wanted to look back on theses videos and photos and take off some photos to put in frames.

To my dismay when i plug in the drive it says it is finding new hardware and drivers and loading it up but nothing shows under my computer. The drive is recognised under the Computer management list so it does exist and shows that there is informaiton on there.

I am though able to see the photos and videos by linking it via the HDMI cable to the TV.

just a number of questions as im not very technically savy.

  1. How do i get to see the drive again on the Laptop/PC to add more files, videos, photos etc to it for the future.

  2.  How do i get the videos, photos off this drive if it is not recognised only in Computer managment. 

  3. Does this mean the drive is on its way out and to make sure i get another larger drive to store the files on for the future and get rid of this one.

thanks all any advise and assistance would be great but please keep it simple as im not to up on these thngs.

If the files are displayed on a television system then the files are still stored within your WD Elements Play. However, this is an unusual situation and I have a few questions for troubleshooting:

  1. What operating system is the current computer using?

  2. What operating system is the one on the original computer that was used to add media into the device?

  3. Do you encounter the same behavior in other computer systems?

  4. Do you encounter the same behavior if you change the USB cable?
