I have a WD MyCloud 4TB. Energy saving is switched on. But the drive is 24/7 running. You hear the drive always running and the drive is feeling warm. What’s going on? What do I have to do to give the drive e real “stand-by”-modus.
Everytime I start up my computer the samen ‘new’ firmware for the WD MyCloud is downloaded and installed. What’s going on? What do I have to do to stop this?
Do a forum search, magnifying glass icon upper right, for “sleep” and you’ll see the inability of the single bay My Cloud units (both first gen v3.x/v4.x and second gen v2.x) to sleep has been long discussed with no real solution that fix everyone sleep problem.
You will need to enable SSH through the My Cloud Dashboard in order to issue the various commands to stop services that impact the My Cloud ability to remain sleep.
You probably have one of the WD apps installed like WD QuickView or WD Access (or WD Sync). These apps will access the My Cloud and display alert/notification messages that one can see when they the My Cloud Dashboard and select the Alert/Notification icon:
When one has the My cloud Dashboard Alert/Notification dialog window open they can select the trash can icon on each message to delete it/them.
