Entering credentials to access a private share in Windows 7

I am following the instructions to map a private share in Windows 7.

but the explanation is terribly unclear right at the critical juncture, where the credentials are required to access the private share. Do I use the admin user I created in the dashboard? When the word “user” is used, does it mean MyCloud user or Windows user?

Also, at that critical juncture, the hyperlink to Answer ID 10423: results in a page not found error.

On the WD dashboard, user admin has write privileges to this private share.

On the Windows “Enter Network Password” dialog, what should be entered in username and password? admin + the password I set up on the WD dashboard do not work.

If I enter wdmycloud\admin as the user, that does not work either.

What is the exact error message that appears when you attempt to map a Share using the My Cloud administrator user name and password?

If you have already mapped a Share using another user name, Windows will prevent the person from using a second or additional user credentials beyond the first user credentials. One may have to remove all existing mapped shares on their computer, then access the Windows Credential Manager and remove any Windows credentials that are listed for the My Cloud then try remapping all shares.

Especially the Public share; without forcing it to ‘use other credentials’, it will use your Windows account credentials, and, since it’s public access, it will be granted. Thereafter, you will not be able to connect to any private shares due to the Windows NAS credentials conflict problem.

Thanks for the replies. I didn’t realize that I shouldn’t try to connect with other credentials, and it connected with my Windows account credentials.
