Ethernet connection to my 2tb

Can i connect my Mycloud via the ethernet cable directly into my laptop and then use Time Machine to back up to it? Over a wireless ‘connection’ the back up of about 250GB is taking at least 36 hrs. I was hoping that the initial hard wired backup could be quicker and then later backups can be done wirelessly through the router connection.

Yeah it should work, why not just plug your laptop into the network?

Yes, that will make transfer speeds way faster than wireless

I did that and it seemed to work very well. However now that i am ‘updating’ the backup wirelessly, Time Machine has decided not to find the backup done while connected but rather decided to do a whole new backup and of course it is taking forever, 3 days to do 25gb! only 9 more to go! Any hints, ideas about how to speed this up or reset parameters etc
