Event code:2300 - Exceeded share directory monitor resource limit

After the new release started creating several unnecessary directories on my device, I now got the following email alert (which does not show on my dashboard, btw)…    What is the share directory monitor resource limit?  I was told there is no limit to the number of directories in a share.  If this means something different, please let me know what it means.  thanks!

Event title:Exceeded share directory monitor resource limit

Event description:Share directory monitor watch limit has been exceeded. Reduce the number of directories and restart the device to ensure all items are viewable in remote access.

Event code:2300

Hello  kattmandu,

This case is currently under investigation.

Has this been resolved?  I’m seeing the same warning.

I continue to get this error.  Has anyone been able to determine what this code means and what occurs on the device to trigger this event?

It seems I receive the alert when the following occur:

  1. remote access is lost (MyCloud apps on phones, tablets and laptops cannot find the device)

  2. Reboot the system

  3. Get the Event code 2300 alert

Anxiously awaiting your findings and solution to be posted.

Has anyone else been experiencing these alerts?  Is it the same sequence of events that result in the alert?

thank you.

Where can we go to check on the most recent status of thing under investigation like this?  I have been having this problem for quite some time now and I don’t know what the cause is nor have a work around.

Looks like there is a fix…

Hi  bradenlake

Mine is a MyCloud EX2 device.  That firmware release is not for the EX2.  Did that release fix your problem with the Event code 2300?

Perhaps to aid in the investigation, I noticed a pattern I wanted to share.

Within a few minutes of rebooting my EX2, I receive the alert for event code 2300.

I have to reboot the EX2 whenever I cannot access the device remotely, which happens about once a week for some reason.

I am hoping a fix can be found and implemented with the next firmware release

I am getting the same error on my EX4 and it’s only 2 weeks old!  It’s runnig the current firmware also.  When i check on the dashboard it seems like the CPU is running in overdrive?  this can’t be right considering the storage and structure on there (other than the useless “public” folders" is the exact structure that was running on a MYBOOK previously?!?!?

Please Advise!

Following events are generated on your WDMyCloudEX4 .

Event title:Exceeded share directory monitor resource limit

Event description:Share directory monitor watch limit has been exceeded. Reduce the number of directories and restart the device to ensure all items are viewable in remote access.

Severity:Info

Event code:2300

Event time:08-07-2014 09:07:57 AM

Firmware version:       1.04.04

This CAN be right…not saying it is good. Having the same directory structure on My Book is a very different situation…My Book is just a hard drive that needs to conform to the rules of whatever OS of the computer it’s attached to. In EX2’s case, the directory structure needs to conform to the rules of the OS on EX2. Two different OS’…two different outcomes. And obviously the error is self-explanatory about what exactly the issue is…too many directories.

Hi Cybernut1,

While I agree with your statements, the device getting this error is the destination device used for remote backups only.

The alert message is not ever generated by the source device, which has the same directory structure… with one exception:

the remote backup job creates 2 directory levels on the destination device (introduced with firmware release 1.03.41):

Share for backup

     -  SN of source device   (new)

           -   Job name             (new)

share from Source device (and all the directories/files from the source device)

Also, the generation of this alert message is quite random.  If there were in fact too many directories, would the alert not be issued on some sort of regular basis?

I have also asked WD if there is any sort of directory limit on the EX2, and was told there was no limit.

So, I’m still scratching my head on this one and waiting on some info from WD Level 2.
