I’m looking to grab the EX2 Ultra diskless and installing 2x3TB red drives. I have two questions:
- Will it support a 3TB RAID 1 configuration (odd number)?
- How do I setup the latest OS on virgin drives?
I’m looking to grab the EX2 Ultra diskless and installing 2x3TB red drives. I have two questions:
Hi Yes it doesnt matter what the drive sizes are as long both have equal storage and same brand just to avoid RPM and power issues . As if fastest drive is set to copy slow drive the performance will be not good.
Just ensure there is no data in the drives as while setting up you need to setup raid 1 which will eventually format the hdd’s both and give you full 3tb as other will be redundant backup disc. So if 1 fails you can sill recover the data .
Thanks for the reply. So when I install the 2 drives and they format, where do I get the WD Mycloud OS?
its firmware built in. You dont need to install. But it wont update to latest without active HDD ie formatted raid setup completed hdd. More like a flash storage built into the nas bay. It dont have anything to do with hdd installed. Only when updating it used to download to hdd temp storage to upgrade to lastest firmware.
So it will boot up to the OS in the firmware and then update via the Internet?
yes but only update when hdd are installed and raid setup is done. As it needs a clear defined storage space. Unless hdd are installed and setup done completely you cant even get to the portal of nas
