External HDD Connection

Hi everyone,

I have an external HDD with my media on it.

What would be the best way to connect it to my WDTV Live?

  1. Connect the HDD directly to the WDTV with the usb port and then just eject it and connect it to my computer to update/add new content, then connect it back to the WDTV.
  2. Connect the HDD to a USB switch and have one button go to WDTV and one go to PC, then just press the btton to switch it between the two.
  3. Connect the HDD to the WDTV with the usb port and then just add/update new content from the networked folder on my PC or by using the WD Link program.

Any ideas on what method would work best or how you all currently have it set up?

I have tried connecting it to my router and using it as a network storage, but it doesnt access the XML files to pull up the etra info about the media.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appeciated.

Thank you!

  1. This will be faster if you’re moving lots of files around.

  2. Do NOT do this… Not worth the hassle and risk of corruption if you forget to eject the drive before switching.

  3. This works fine for small amounts of file changes.

Awesome, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!

So you think it would be best to use just the (1) USB method for massive file transfers and then the (3)USB networked option for small file additions?  Thanks, good to hear.
