After fighting with the DLNA server for a week, I regretfully returned the 4TB My Cloud while I can and moved on.
Except for the DLNA that was never stable and terrribly slow, I thought all the remote stuff and the speed on the network was quite good. However, who needs 4TB at home, if it is not for media/video serving. WD did not test this critical part out before releasing. Don’t buy it for DLNA or video serving.
I can’t say about the Backup capabilties since I never had the time to test it out. For backups, I have been still using my old WD-MyWorld dual RAID unit anyway.
Guess I am back to hooking a HD to my Netgear R7000 router and using its DLNA server. Not great either, but at least it works and quick at browsing. Something that My Cloud fails miserably.
My thanks and regards to all you kind folks who tried to help.
Ichigo, I have to agree with pplwin with regards to the fact that both the regular mycloud and the EX4 are filled with issues. I have come to love my EX4, but I feel that the headaches are not worth the trouble. While support helps solve some of the issues it usually resorts down to a restore or a reset and that’s unacceptable after I have spent days putting content on the device, and hours setting up user accounts and getting them connected(EX4 group access doesn’t work correctly or it would have been a breeze).
WD needs to really work hard and fast to get new stable firmware out to resolve a lot of these issues. I spent over 1200 dollars for both a 4tb mycloud for home use and the 16tb ex4 for my office. The issues that are occurring are truly unacceptable(and I say this with the most love of the product because when it does work its AMAZING and I love every second of it(so do my users) but when it doesn’t its a living nightmare)
