I have tried searching this site to find out how to roll back firmware for my WDTVLive, but the search engine just plain **bleep**. I can not find any info on where the older firmware files are, and how to install them over top of the latest nonworking v1.03.49_V firmware.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S.
I can no longer access samba shares on my dlink DNS-323 NAS.
mp4 support is now broken. mp4 files encoded in h264 HD no longer have audio, even though the mp4 file shows a supported audio format.
You will need to edit the ver file (use notepad) to something higher than 1.03.49 (eg 1.03.50). This will fool the WDTV into accepting the downgrade. When it reboots with .21 firmware it will tell you that there is new firmware, ignore that or you will be going round in circles.
Obviuosly when connected to the net it will also keep prompting you about new firmware.
rollback was a pice of cack as it define it self 1.04.* but it would not work if the installed version is more higher like 1.05 so anyone knows how to modify the version so it can always rollback my may be some one make it 1.20 or 5.*** i do not know coz thai *.21 is very stable version
Youâll never see an update to support new codecs.
The chip can only support what the chip was built to support. You canât add codecs to it like you can with software players. If the chip wasnât built to decode codec âXâ then the player will never be able to play codec âXâ.
Okay, following the directions. Step five says âSelect New Firmware Foundâ. But if one has already installed the new firmware (and are trying to rollback to a previous version) the âNew Firmware Foundâ icon does not show up. One is already at the latest firmware. Why would the âSelect New Firmwareâ icon show up. So what to do then?

Okay, thanks. Went there, tried it. It worked. Yeah! Thanks again. What worked and what is not in the directions that I found (at least that I could see) is that one has to edit the version file, specifically the firmware version number, to something higher than currently installed. I donât see why that particular step is not included. But I figured it out with help from this board, so I am happy now. What specifically stopped working that made me rollback is that my .mkv files no longer played. I tried the âreset to factoryâ tip which didnât work. But thanks again.

If you use the official rollback version this is already done for you. The problem is that the firmware versions are also available in other links, and since those were the original release of that version, the âversionâ files have not been edited.

If you had downloaded the firmware from the WD link which was given in the tread
then there would have been no need to edit the version file. The rollback firmware on that page have already had their version numbers updated as they have been specifically created for rollback.
