Flashing green light - no access - after power cut

We had some power issues the other day which dropped power to the mybook live.  Since then it has been green flashing constant light and i cant access the device…

I have dropped power again and it does exactly the same… green flashing light.

I have tried to get onto the device via web address in safari, but no joy.

Any ideas what i can do?  Is there a reset button or something that i can do that doesn’t loose all my data??

You can press the reset button on the back for 4 seconds, it wont delete your files. You can also try connecting the my book directly to the PC and check if it’s recognized.

I have the same problem but I refuse to hit the reset button as I’ll lose all my files. There has to be another way.

When I click on the network drive it says there is an DNS issue. How do I fix that? I’ve googled and tried every way to get to the dashboard but I can not. I’ve googled for a solution but I only find the same question everywhere.

The front light is red. The ethernet bottom light is constantly green, the top light flashes green occasionally. I haven’t updated the firmware recently. It has worked fine for 4 months but had the first power cut of the season in the night and now it’s not talking to my PC. It shows up in My Network folder as [NONE] but the drive I mapped it too has a big red cross on it… if that helps but either way I need to get the DNS sorted as that should fix it. Fingers crossed.

go into your router admin panel and see what IP it is assigning to the MBL.  Then enter that IP in the browser.  Since the power was cut, the router went down too.  my guess is that the router assigned a different IP to your MBL and the name is not resolving yet.  First I would reserve an IP in your router for the MBL, so that it always assigns the same one.

THen, you can either flush the DNS, google that, or try using a different DNS like 8.8.8.8.  You don’t need a DNS at all if you are entering the IP directly tho…

You can hold the pinhole button on the back for 4 seconds without worry.  All that does is reset the network setting to default and reset the admin password to default.

Thanks for the advice.

I set pushed the pinhole first as that is the easiest thing to do.  The red light went from red to green but nothing else happened.  I rebooted everything, still nothing.

So I set the IP manually (to xx.xx.xx.2) - nothing - rebooted - then I couldn’t get into my router.

I logged into the router but got the message ‘(xx.xx.xx.2) is managing this device’ so I unplugged the ethernet cable from the MyBook and I got access.  The log in there said ‘[Admin login] from source xx.xx.xx.2, user [xx.xx.xx.2] try to log in web’.   You have any idea about that?

The router doesn’t actually connect to the MyBook either, it doesn’t seem to recognise it is connected, and the response from pinging is ‘PING xx.xx.xx.2 (xx.xx.xx.2): 56 data bytes   — xx.xx.xx.2 ping statistics — 4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss’.

I don’t have DNS set but I’m googling that now to see what else I can do.

The front light is red again ***sigh***

update…

I flushed the DNS now the light alternates between blue and I think it’s green.  Could be yellow but I’ve not really taken the time to notice the difference before. Its like a lime green colour.   I get about 1 min of that then 15secs of blue.  Still nothing it recognising it connected.  I’ve also change the ethernet cable in case it was that.
