Flashing Red Light

I’m a layman in tech and have been using a 2nd generation single bay My Cloud since 2019, it was working fine until lately its red light starts flashing.

i have changed the internet cable, disconnected and reconnected with the router, laptop, used the rest button etc… followed several Youtube videos for troubleshooting and none of them work.

i would appreciate if anyone could provide me with some advices to make the device work again (or at least allow me to extract the data from this HD to another).

Many thanks in advance.

If you haven’t done so already, use the search feature, magnifying glass icon top right, to search the My Cloud subforum for “flashing red light”. There are a number of past discussions on the issue with suggestions made in some of those past discussions.

If you want to “unbrick” the hard drive of a single bay My Cloud device to restore the operating system to it, you can find various methods for doing so by using the search feature.

If you want to recover the data on the drive, extract the hard drive from the My Cloud enclosure and connect it (using a powered USB to SATA adapter) to a computer running Linux or running Linux disk drivers. The My Cloud hard drive data partition is typically formatted for EXT4.

IF you don’t have the User Manual here is a link. Look at LEDs.

For information on OS5 look at this link.

Many thanks for the information.
According the manual, it seems like these are the potential problems… I will need to spend sometime and figure what’s wrong… :face_holding_back_tears:

Disk SMART failure

Data volume does not exist

System volume does not exist

Thanks for your advice.

I defo will dig more info here but probably will go down the dismantle path….:fearful:
