I have a 3TB My Book external drive that I planned on using to back up a Windows 2008R2 server. I get an error when attempting to perform the backup. When I examined the KB for Windows it appears that the drive I have is not and 512E drive, rather it is a 4k native drive (this is based on the output of the FSUTIL fsinfo ntfsinfo command).
It appears that if I can get the drive formatted to 512E then my backup will work (I have the hotfix for windows - 982018 installed already).
Does anyone know how to format a drive in this fashion?
I don’t think it matters- I looked in KB 1708 and I don’t see Server 2008 R2 listed as compatible with any of them.
It isn’t… none of the externals work with any of the server OSes… they mark the box with the compatible operating systems. The desktop drives need a desktop OS.
