G-Drive 2TB USB3 Error: Unable to unmount volume for repair

My G-Drive 2TB USB3 with Firewire backup is less than 1 year old
0G02529

I use this for time machine backups on my Mac Pro Server (Mid 2010)
This is one of two similar drives in rotation

OS X El Captan 10.11.4

The drive has been giving me trouble for months.
I decided to re-format the drive and do a new, clean backup.
The initial backup ran perfectly.
Total backup is 982GB.

After consulting with a G-Technologies agent, I was encouraged to update the firmware on this external drive.
I downloaded G-Technology_Firmware_Update_Utility0614
Installed and ran this on our Mac Pro with only the problematic G-Drive connected.
I restarted the computer and the drive.
Time Machine ran successfully the first time. But it failed on the subsequent attempt (one hour later)
I cannot eject the G-Drive because one or more application is using it.
I ran disk utilities/first aid on the G-Drive.
Process failed with this error message:
“Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Unable to unmount volume for repair.
Operation failed…”

What are my next steps?
Shall I begin a return process and acquire an RMA?

Thanks in advance.

From what your experiencing with the drive and you’re still getting the type of corrupted errors you’re getting then we would suggest getting the drive replaced under warranty.

You can generate an RMA for your drive here: RMA

Thank you for your prompt reply. It is rare that a company stands behind their product these days. Seems everyone is investing so much into sales and they lack support. I have been extremely satisfied with the attention given by this forum as well as the tech support. This is how business should be done. Keep it up.
