Hard Drive showing up incorrect capacity

I have had a WD Element external hard drive. It is 1Tb capacity.
It is old - bought October 2009
Use mainly for Genie Timeline Pro backup.
For some reason it stopped working. I unplugged it, let it cool down then plugged it in again. When it restarted it now only has a capacity of 31.9 Gb and there is nothing on it?

What has happened? Is the rest of the drive retrievable?
Luckily there is nothing vital on it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dublin17,

Sorry to bother you. But I have met the same thing as u.
Did u solve it? If you have solved it, could you tell me how did u do so?
Thanks!!!

Hi Hinata

Yes I solved it.
I went into disc management, deleted the volumes and created a new
partition (for the whole disc)

Bets of luck it works for you

Thanks for your help!
