Having issue with WD-Backup recognizing new 8TB Easystore Desktop drive

Bought new 8TB Easystore desktop drive to replace a maxed out 1.5 MyBook as my automated backup. The drive is recognized after install as my G: drive, shows up when I use WD-Discovery as 100 available but cannot get WD-Backup software to install properly. I have attempted to load the WD-Backup software from both the offline installers folder and from the website but as I progress through the process it says no backup drive detected. My PC is on Windows 10. Read through entire manual and contacted support but to no avail. Do I have to do something to have G: drive recognized as backup drive?

Do you have WD Utilities and WD Security? You need to run these first to format the drive. You should also download WD Discovery.

Yes. I have installed WD-Discovery, WD-Drive Utilities and WD-Security. All three had loaded without issue previously. The WD-drive utilities , WD-security and WD-Smartware show up under my apps when i run Discovery. WD-Backup shows under my available apps with a link to install but when I go through those steps I get the same message that no backup drive is detected. I also read in some other thread that WD-Security doesn’t work with EasyStore

I am having the same problem. Purchased the 8TB Easystore – loaded the software per the instructions and backup will not commence. I made sure all of the software was updated. I have a Lenova Yoga 3 – and I am running Windows 10. Truly frustrating and annoying – useful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem. Just bought 8TB EasyStore and spent 3 hours on the phone yesterday with two WD tech supports with no luck. They both uninstalled and uninstalled WD Backup remotely. After doing some stuff remotely (which was beyond my skill set) they got it to work but after I restart the computer, WD Backup doesn’t work and I haven’t been able to get it to work again. The last tech was sorry he couldn’t fix it (he stayed on the phone line while I restarted my computer and recreated the issue) and said there are some software problems. I asked if they were going to come out with a fix but he didn’t know. Running WIN 10. Thinking about returning it for my money back.

I took my 8TB Easystore back – and then purchased the WD My Book. Unfortunately, same issue – backup will not start. Despite multiple reinstallation attempts – no success. I have used WD products over the years with no problems – but perhaps its time to switch to another product family.

Seems to be a pattern here. After finally getting WD tech support on the phone and spending the better part of two hours, it was decided that the drive was bad. Initial problem was WD-Backup software wouldn’t load from either the drive itself or from the website. Turns out that was a driver issue that support was able to fix remotely and when they did the drive appeared but was in read only mode. Attempting to re-image the drive kept saying to install a valid drive. Tech support then gave up. Recommended returning to the store which I did and switched down to a 4TB drive. Will take the week off before I start the frustration again. Have had good luck with the drives in the past (own 3 others) so I’ll give company benefit of he doubt but losing faith based on other’s experiences here.

I’ve been watching the posts here to see if others are having similar problems. I took mine back. Surprising that WD hasn’t responded to any of these posts!

Try disabling your Firewall, Install, then turn Firewall back on. (McAfee gave us this problem in 2020 on Windows10) Like others, we spent 6 months (many, many weekends, days - searching net for solution and calling, waiting for WD Support. (They did not fix.) WE DID.
