Can I hook up 2 additional external drives to my 6tb mybook live duo via USB hub or just one through the USB on the back of mybook live. Secondly if I was to expand my book live with a 4tb mybook, will second drive go to sleep mode when the live duo enters sleep?
Unfortunately, USB hubs have not been tested with the USB port of the WD My Book Live Duo Personal Cloud Storage unit, which means we are unable to guarantee recognition of multiple USB units while ensuring safe and predictable functionality. I would not recommend it.
USB sleep behavior will depend on the USB device itself. Some of them will enter sleep mode when detecting the host device is no longer active, while other units will not.
My setup for the last few months have been as follows;
Running Mac OS X - WD My Book Live Duo 4TB - connecting a Belkin powered USB Hub to the USB port of the Live Duo - adding 3 2TB external drives ( 2 Buffalo and i Hitachi Drive all powered). The Live Duo is connected directly via Ethernet to my WiFi Router.
It has been running very well. On my Macs, I can see all the drives as separately mounted drives, I can access and play the individual files wirelessly and smoothly. I can play the same files from my Apple TV 2 (jailbroken for that purpose), from a WD LIve Streamer and from an Android Set Top Box. Plays well on my IOS devices also.
Yesterday, I substituted a new WD My Book 3TB for the Hitachi drive and updated to the latest firmware without problems. Now, I can still see my Live Duo and the new My Book, but I cannot access files on the other 2 drives from my Macs. However, I can access and play the same files on the Buffalo drives using the WD Cloud program on the Macs and IOS devices. If I run XBMC on the Apple TV 2, I can access the files. Just not on the computers.
After some testing, I can surmise that the latest firmware broke parts of the Apple File Protocols. It seems to be able to connect if I elect to use Windows workgroup protocols with SAMBA.
Can I roll back to the previous last firmware and where can I obtain that?
