How to Access MyCloud via FTP Outside Local Network on macOS Sonoma?

Hello everyone,

I am currently using a Mac running macOS Sonoma and I need some assistance with accessing my Western Digital MyCloud NAS drive via FTP from outside my local network.

I’ve been able to access MyCloud locally without any issues, but now I need to access it remotely. Is it possible to set up FTP access for MyCloud over the internet? If so, could someone guide me through the process?

Specifically, I need to know:

  1. How to configure MyCloud for remote FTP access.
  2. What steps I need to follow on my Mac to connect to the MyCloud FTP server.
  3. How to find the external IP address for MyCloud.

Any detailed instructions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards, Nathan

  • The My Cloud Home does not support FTP
  • The My Cloud Home has almost nothing in common with the My Cloud

Please ask this question in the My Cloud subforum where they would be able to answer your questions. It is the subforum with the blue heading.

I never mentioned anything regarding My Cloud OS5.

OS5 is the only OS that is supported for the My Cloud at this point. If you are using something else such as OS3, the functionality is not supported.

Either OS3 or OS5, the OS is not something My Cloud Home users here will be knowledgeable enough to answer your specific questions.
