How To Find Updated Firmware?

I’ve searched all over the WD website and have given up. Call me a dummy. Where can I find the latest firmware for my WD5000AAKS?

The answer to my question is here:

Availability of firmware updates for WD Products - Answer ID 1348

Excerpt:

“There are no firmware updates available for our drives unless it is listed in the Downloads Library. If you don’t see a firmware update then there is not one available for your drive. For most drives, a firmware update is not needed unless a new feature is added after it’s initial release, or a technical issue needs to be resolved.”

you are right, theres no firmware update for that caviar blue internal drive.  Are you having any issues with it?

Given the fact that firmware routinely goes bad, it would make perfect sense to offer even the current firmware with a proper utility.  That way when it DOES go bad, you can repair the drive and salvage your data yourself. It would be just one more line of insurance to protect data…  Why doesn’t WD do this?  Does WD get kickbacks from data recovery companies to NOT do this, or is it just to convenient to have people just buy another one after the loss of 1.5TB of data?
