How to update to the latest GIT version on My Cloud Mirror?

Hello I just bought a “My Cloud Mirror” in order to use it as a GIT server and NAS for our small team.

It is really great that GIT is natively supported on the “My Cloud Mirror” but the version available on the NAS is 1.4.0 while the latest version as of now is 2.5.2.

Is there any way to update to the latest version of GIT on the “My Cloud Mirror”?

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Hello and welcome to the WD community.

Normally if there is a newer version of a one of the apps, you will get a prompt on the actual apps section on the dashboard, but I do not know if there is an update for it, you can also try to see if the GIT support can help you on trying to verify if there is a newer version.

Hello ArMak,

Thank you for your reply. As I said in my post, there is a newer version and it has the number 2.5.2. The version that is currently available on the MCM is 1.4.0, it is more than 3 years old.

Is there a way to ask WD to update the GIT version on their MCM?

Thanks

Hello,

You could post this as an idea on the ideas board or see if it has already been suggested, here is a link to the ideas board:

CamilleK,

Several months ago I called WD support to ask if the My Cloud Mirror supported file repositories. The person from WD said she was not aware of it. Soon after I did read somewhere that My Cloud Mirror supported Git and I'm pretty sure it was in a WD pdf file of some kind.

I just searched both "Git" and "repository" within the My Cloud Mirror Users Manual and there was no mention of "Git" or file repositories. When you say that "Git" is natively supported are you stating that some version is already installed on the device when purchased? Have you read any WD documents stating support of "Git" or file repositories?

Thanks, Scott

Hello Scott,
Yes, I also clearly remember seeing this in one of the PDFs of the product, but I couldn’t find it anymore. Anyway you should see GIT as one of the available apps in the Apps section of the MyCloud Mirror menu.

This said we’ve tried to make GIT work from the My Cloud Mirror but we failed. GIT needs a file level access to the system in order to be configured and even though we accessed the MCM file system using SSH we couldn’t properly configure it.
