Hub migration

Using the copy function on the hub, I’ve just finished transfering video files from my NAS over to a new Hub puchased as a gift.

Problem is that the backdrops don’t come up for 90% of the shows, but does display correctly on a few.  ???

With the firmware out of the box, 3.08.14, Titan Live theme, and Tinwarbles darklight templates, I had everything working on my SMP’s, but now they are buggered as well.  Overviews come up and box covers are ordered properly… everything but the backdrops.

If it wasn’t for it working properly on some that were transfered, I would wipe it all and tell him to use the internal scraper, but is there an easy fix for this?  There’s over 600G of data there, not to mention my own is now …  less than perfect.

I’ve tried wiping the media library on the hub and rebuilding it.  No joy.

Any suggestions?

have not looked to see which firmware is current

did you try updating firmware

WD changed xml struture for backdrops a while back, so if 3.08.14 is really old, updating to recent firmware may solve it

…  and is the issue also happening with the stock “Mochi” theme?   Or just the custom theme?

The fact that there are a few that work properly indicate to me it isn’t a firmware issue. ?? but something else.

I’m just not very familiar with the differences between the Hub and SMP, as I’ve never had one but to give it away as I am now.

Think maybe I broke something in the xml’s messing around with Tinwarbles templates, but they seem to point at all the right places, and they were working before on the SMP’s from my recollection.

I also tried wiping all .wd_tv files on the NAS and rebuilt the media library.  No joy.

Going to try re-creating from metadata with a small sample to see if it repairs it.

Looks like you were probably typing when I posted my question right above your last post.

Yes.  Mochi gives me all the info, but a black background.  The one series working still provides the background as well.

Thumbgen re-build from metadata and a rescan of the folder didn’t repair it.

Backdrops are displayed via the tag in the movie xml.

Depending how you have thumbgen setup … the backdrop can display from either TMDB/TVDB website or from a local backdrop jpeg.

for example: if i open my G.I. Joe Retaliation.xml i find a bunch of this…

http://d3gtl9l2a4fn1j.cloudfront.net/t/p/original/2Ll9JmfiHmNZzYFG6Oy2rjE07H0.jpg

this displays the backdrops streamed for the TMDB.

Alternately you can setup thumbgen to generate a local backdrop image and include the reference in the xml

eg. G.I. Joe Retaliation_sheet.jpg

so this displays the backdrop that is located with your local files

G.I. Joe Retaliation.mkv

G.I. Joe Retaliation.xml

G.I. Joe Retaliation.jpg

G.I. Joe Retaliation_sheet.jpg

In closing … you need to investigate the xml’s of the files where the backdrops are not displaying to determine where the problem is.

P.S. Here is the Thumbgen Options for backdrop links

Thanks for the reply.  I have Thumbgen set up to “store links to moviesheets”, and

The xml’s were my first thought, but after looking again, I can see no difference between the ones working, and the ones not, aside from some missing data in the actor and cast fields.  Reason for this is beyond my paygrade.

Puzzling :confounded:

so, the ‘non-working’ one … You defiantly have the moviesheet in the same folder and residing next to the media file ?

eg.

Breaking Bad Season 5  -----  folder       (files below are inside this folder)

Checked and re-checked.  That is the case.

All I did was unplug one of my SMP’s and plug in the HUB.  It networked up, and I began transeferring folders after setting up a few base folders.  I didn’t remove the hard-drive from the HUB, becasue I didn’t want to void the warranty, and used the native copy function.   Now, the backdrops are gone from all but four seasons of BB, and maybe a few other I haven’t found.

Shortly before I began all this, I did do a conversion of all the backdrops using thumbgen (use metadata), but it worked on both networked SMP’s prior to moving ahead, so I did…

and here I am…

edit – upon closer inspection, all the working xml’s are missing actor and director data.  ???  I have a strange feeling the last go around with thumbgen messed up the .tmgd file.  Not looking good.

dunno, try re-copying over one of the BB seasons with the missing backdrops … wait for the Hub to finishing compiling and see if the backdrops will display for that season ?

What boggles me is that when switching to network share so it reads off the NAS, it still doesn’t work, which tells me the HUB is just doing what it’s told when it reads from its internal drive, and that the problem resides on the NAS.

I’ll have to get that sorted first.  Then I’ll patch it into my switch with it’s own lan and try another small transfer.

And here I thought it would be something simple.  :smileyvery-happy:

*Shoud this thread be moved to the SMP forum?*

I’ve now removed the HUB from the network and reattached the SMP.  I have two of these.

#1 running 1.10.13

#2 running 1.12.14

#1 displays the backdrops as it should, but the episode cover boxes don’t display with the episode # anymore, even though the image itself has it.

#2 won’t display any backdrops except in BB, and has the same issue with the episode cover boxes.

Switch to Mochi

#1 displays episode boxes properly as well as backdrops.

#2 displays episode boxes properly but still no backdrops.

Switch to Darklight

Same thing, but the episode boxes now show the #'s on top on both.

Geez, what happened?

Could it be something like in this thread?

I’ll have to read through that thread.   However…

Having bit the bullet and updated the firmware on the HUB to the current one, everything works fine on the hub now, sort of…

Using Mochi, everything works properly.  Episode cover boxes have the #'s on top, backdrops display properly, overviews come up.

It doesn’t work properly with any of the custom themes.  Backdrops come up but the cover boxes don’t display the #'s again, but some series do.  At least there is the default that works.

A definite step in the right direction.  Thanks to KAD79 for nailing it off the get-go.

Now to concentrate on the other issues reamaining.

I’m still wondering about the firmware

not having a hub, I haven’t followed the firmware changes

but thumbgen has 2 options on how to format the xml’s for the hub

apparently this is due to a firmware change some time ago

so if the xml could look valid, and be valid on a newer firmware

but the older firmware would require a different xml format to function correctly

does anybody know which firmware it was that WD made this change??

I have updated the fw on the hub now, solving many problems.  (should’ve tried that right away was hesitant)

Different issue but my tie into it – while both SMP’s see 700 or so “new items”, the HUB sees just under 2000.

On the hub, I’ve placed everyhting in a “Videos” file I created before I began.  Same files, same structure as the SMP’s.

Lastly, I find that Titan Live and Tinwarbles templates for Darklight just don’t get along.

I swear they were working for a while prior to ever attempting this transfer, but once I removed one SMP from the network, the house of cards just crumbled one corner at a time.  First this wasn’t working, then that, then the other thing changed, all on different machines…

On both SMP’s I now have Darlight with the intended TG templates, everything works but the backdrops on the #2 unit.

The hidden folders starting with a . should they not be coppied over as well?

It turned out to be a firmware issue.  Updating resolved many issues.

What I did was copy over all the files, then cleared the media library and re-built it internally.

Not being too familiar with the HUB, I didn’t delete all the .wd_tv files that already existed, and assumed (ruh roh…) the unit would clear old and build new.

That might explain the overly large amount of “new videos” found once this process was complete - some 2000 or so compared to the 700 or so on my SMP with similar files.

Can someone out there tell me which .wd_tv files to delete, and their locations, outside of the ones i know about within each *edit*  video sub- folder?

The unit is back in its box right now so I don’t know exactly… I was looking at a large one, something along the lines of “union cas index” located in one of the hidden files on (or near) the root of the device, but I shied away from deleting it because of unfamiliarity.

Any help here appreciated.
