I need help with setup

I am ready to set up my EX2 Ultra (4Tb, red drives) and I would really like to do it right the first time. Here is my goal for this device. I would like to store a large number of photos… much more than will fit on my laptop.

I would like to use one drive to keep the photo collection and one drive to automatically back it up. I think that means I want to choose Raid 1.??? I do also plan to occasionally back up to an external drive for added security. Is Raid 1 what I should use?

I would also like to back up the photos (and documents) that are on my laptop with a regular incremental backup. I have a fear that if I ask the NAS to keep my photos up to date by incrementally backing up my laptop files, then the photos not on my laptop will be deleted since they are not on my laptop. How do I handle this?

Thanks in advance for your advice,

Bryce

Yes - - -you want Raid 1.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO OS/5 WHEN PROMPTED.

Not sure how to do backups of photos and what not.
I do the simple drag/drop method; and run a simple file comparison tool to see that I have it right.
That includes backing up to an external USB 4TB drive.

Thank you.
Will a Raid 1 setup automatically mean that the second drive is dedicated to being a copy of the first drive? I won’t need to ask it to copy drive 1… it will just do it. Is that right?

correct.

Raid 1 is automatic mirroring.

If you ever fail a drive; you just pop in a new one - - - -and shazzam. The backup is restored.
