iPhone 4 wd2go does not play video files

Hi, my wd2go app worked fine on our iPhone 4’s up until a week or so ago - I can access, download all that stuff fine but cannot play either downloaded mp4 or streamed from the shared folder.

It works fine on my iPad & my Xperia Z phone but only recently stopped on the iPhones - any ideas?

So, what happens when you try?  Getting any error messages?

Yes:

Error

Unable to play this media file.

Hmmm.   Have you tried to force-close the app and restart it?

Yes, & deleting it & re-adding it with no luck. The files all worked a few weeks ago no problem so I’m wondering if there’s been an Apple software update that’s affected it?

Well, iOS 6.1.3 was released a few weeks ago …

Then you are two steps ahead of me!

I cant get it to play on my iPad or Android.

Can you tell me how you get it to work??

Select a movie or other media file.

Tap the file name

Media plays.

thanks for the quick reply. I do select a file, mp4 that i know works if it is safed directly on the mobile. but when I click on it from the wd2go app it takes ages to starts then keeps on breaking.

even small songs do the same!

Sounds like you don’t have enough bandwidth to stream the file real time.

In my opinion, one needs to have twice as much bandwidth between the mobile device and the storage as the maximum bitrate of the file.

In other words, if your file bitrate is 3 megabits per second, you need to have at least 6 megabits per second of bandwidth between your devices.

I have tried to play a sample video that is 34 MB in size, stopped all other activities on the WiFi and made sure I have space on the iPad. still no luck :frowning:

Did you ever get this figured out?
