Is my nas BRICKED in the night?

One of the reasons I bought a WDMyCloudEX2 is the power saving.

So I have of course turned it on.

I have also SCHEDULED to turn the unit off during the night (from midnight).

Now one evening I was working late and needed access to the nas.

That’s not possible - no ON/OFF button to access, no dashboard, no nothing.

The device is actually bricked until it reaches the time to start up again.

Or is there a way to start it, if needed?

You can power cycle it by pulling off the adapter plug on the back. Pretty inconvenient, but works.

I use the Wake On Lan (WOL) to wake My Cloud EX2 from being powered down.

I didn’t think of power cycling like that, thanks.

I don’t like it either, but I don’t think anything bad happens, after all it’s already turned off.

Well, the lesson is that you should be careful when scheduling power off, only let it shut down, when you’re sure you will ‘never’ need it.

I thought I had the same problem, until I downloaded WD Quick View. Once installed on your pc, you can use it to do a quick status check, wake up a device which is on the power off cycle, put it to sleep, or reboot. Try it and I think it will resolve your problem. You will be able to turn on the EX2 even during a power off cycle, without having to physically unplug it.

Just tried WD Quick View.

My nas had turned off for the night, and I could wake it again, without leaving my pc.

This is definately THE solution!
