Is WD Black considered more reliable than WD Blue?

Hi,

Considering a laptop HDD.

Is the WD Black more reliable than the WD Blue? I understand the Black is faster, but that’s not really important to me.

I understand the Black has a longer warranty, but does this truly reflect better reliability in the Black (and not just a willingness to underwrite a longer warranty)? (For example, I think I read that the Black has better mechanical build quality – though this may have been talking about the desktop version; is this true for the laptop version?)

If they are actually about equal in reliability, I’ll probably go with the Blue since it has more capacity available (1TB, vs 750GB for the Black).

Many thanks…

Hi there

The blue drives are more designed for everyday use, i would not say that black drives are more reliable, but do have better performance on the speed department, of course this is my opinion. On this case is a matter of what you prefer.

Thanks. This is what I’ve been reading, too, that the Black drives are not necessarily more reliable (that is not the main thing that distinguishes them). Thanks for your help.
