ISO files

My videos are stored as ISO files in a hard drive library. If I open and close more than 8 files to check the contents or select a particular episode etc, I get a notice saying “Cannot open selected file refer manual” There is a blue bar wih OK in thec Centre.

When OK is clicked the display returns to the library list. No further ISO files can be opened. Mpg, avi, mov files will still open. and appear to be unaffected by the problem.

Turn the unit off and then back on, and the ISO files will now open up to about 8 once again, including the ones that previously would not. then the Unable to open notice reappears.

When the unit will not open any further ISO files. if the eject button on the remote is pressed to remove a USB drive, and

Remove selected, the program freezes. The unit can not be turned off with the remote, or any other functions selected.

This problem is the same on two units I have tried, one I returned as it appeared to be faulty, and exactly the same on

the replacement.

I have been through support level one and level two, where all the possible fixes were tried without success. It does appear to be a firmware problem.

Yes, this is a bug.   I believe it currently affects ALL LIVE products.   I’m surprised you can get 8 views; I am only able to do 4 before it has to be rebooted.

The EJECT freeze is probably related.   I suspect that the WD is not DISMOUNTING the ISO files (in LINUX, an ISO must be “Mounted” to a file system in order to access its contents.)   If it’s not DISMOUNTED, then the file handle is still busy, and an EJECT will not be possible.

Since they probably never expected to have stale mounts, they didn’t write an error exception to address it.

We shall see when they fix the first if the second is fixed as well.

Thanks Tony,     Pleased to hear I am not the only one. I had a Seagate player that failed just nicely out of guarantee.

It did play ISOs no trouble though. Hope they are working on an update fix.

I’m sure they are…  It’s a big deal that affects pretty much everyone.   And it was a new bug;  ISOs used work perfectly.

If you want, you can DOWNGRADE to version 2.04.xx (the same bug is in 2.05 and 2.06, I think) and wait for the next release.

Just a bit further re ISO files. They are quick and easy to make, not requiring any conversion, and are accurate

copies of the original. I think by far the best option for libraries, and of course they can be used for burnung discs or

conversion if required. ISO copies of BluRay work perfectly and play almost instantly without the lenghtly reading

process that goes with disc players.

Image Burn does a very efficient job of producing ISOs with all the information in the main file, and it’s free.

Am looking forward to the fix!
