It's been 5 months since last N900 firmware... did WD abandon it's customers?

Every few weeks I check in to see if WD has released new firmware to resolve many of the outstanding problems with the MyNet N900 router, and it’s now been 5 months since the last release and i’m beginning to wonder if Western Digital has simply written off thousands of customers who paid a lot of money for their product, so they can now focus on their AC line of routers.

I have been more than patient with this product and know there are always bugs in early designs, but the lack of support from a great company such as western digital is just pathetic. And i don’t want to be told to RMA the **bleep** thing, what I want is the **bleep** thing to work properly like I paid for.

Come to think of it, I just remembered that Western Digital’s headquarters is only about 15 minutes drive from me. It’s much easier to ignore someone over a stupid forum than it is when they’re in the lobby of your corporate headquarters.

where can i download the newest update ?

i have also a lot of problems with the already 5 months old firmware…

So, what are they saying in private that could not be said in public?

They’re going to arrange a specialist to call me, which sounds to me like they want to focus on this being “user error” and not one of the multiple legitimate problems people have documented over and over here on this forum. I’ve been in the IT business for 16 years, have an MCP and passed 6 out of 7 tests for my MCSE (client, 4x network, design. haven’t taken my windows 7 test yet but i know ill breeze through it), and I know for a fact that there is nothing wrong on my end. Originally I did have a connection issue with my cable modem (moto SB6141 on TWC extreme) with T4 timeouts, but that’s been sorted out with a recent firmware update from TWC. What pisses me off with this new DOCSIS 3.0 standard is how it doesn’t allow ANY user to update the modem’s firmware, even if you yourself own the hardware. This results in Time Warner Cable receiving complaints, which after many months forward to Motorola, who quickly fixes in a firmware update… but since it must be updated by my ISP, TWC spends months telling me to get the update from motorola because they don’t support customer owned modems (yet they recommend which ones we should buy), then Motorola tells me how it must be done by my ISP. Finally, 9 months later Time Warner Cable pushes a firmware update in the middle of the night to finally fix the problem. It’s stupid. I know the goal of DOCSIS 3.0 is to enhance security and create a more uniform hardware/firmware level among the user-base to assist in bug tracking for ISPs support staff, but when a level 3 tech at TWC tells me I have to get a firmware update from Motorola, when DOCSIS 3.0 doesn’t allow ANY user installed firmware, it just drives me nuts. I wish ISPs would send a memo around their support staff informing them that they can no longer pass people off to motorola as a way to get out of a service call they can’t resolve. Anyways, back to the topic. I’ll be setting up this support call early this week when I have some time off. Way too busy working this weekend doing a 300 user corporate server migration. fun… Actually i really hate IT. I’d rather be back in the automotive performance industry, but it’s been in the tank since 2009 and hasn’t really recovered. Thanks Obama!

Ha, I’m a MCP myself. Looks like you got several problems going there. Hope everything gets resolved and good luck.
I’m using the N900 as a wifi access point alone. Have not put it to routing job and will never have to do so I think. I run pfSense as a VMware ESXi virtual machine and that’s my router. It’s hosted in a server that hosts several of my other projects too. Yes, hardware consolidation at its best :). I’m tired of resetting routers and frustrated enough on my internet not working at the time it needs to be. I don’t worry much now. Not a single reboot on my pfSense VM ever since it was setup. I don’t have much gripes yet on N900 yet except for a few things. Don’t need any of the features fit promises, so less disappointment so far.
