Hi all,
every now and again I come across mentions of placing the whole iTunes library on the NAS drive rather than just the music, as I have done - what is the advantage of this?
thanks
You know that if you have a large iTunes library, you may have reached the point where you need to offload some of your media files to another drive.
And If you use both iTunes and another network device or app—such as Plex, a hi-fi media streamer, or Sonos’ wireless home audio system—you can use the NAS to store media that other devices can access. You won’t need to ensure that your Mac is always on.
The My Cloud includes an Itunes media server module that is enabled through the My Cloud Dashboard Settings page.
The iTunes media server on the single bay My Cloud is audio only. It will not stream video or pictures.
The main advantage as the previous poster indicated was not having to keep a Mac on. Instead point the media device to the My Cloud and it will stream audio.
When moving the iTunes media to the My Cloud, make sure to copy all the files/folders in the itunes media folder to the My Cloud then remember to change the iTunes Library Location to point to the My Cloud so any new content is added to the iTunes Library on the My Cloud.
