I’ve just purchased and installed a My Book World Edition 1Tb (white light). It is loaded with firmware 01.01.18 with MioNet 4.3.0.8 and this appears to be the latest version.
I’ve accessed the drive from two PC’s ok, one Win XP Home and other Win 7 and although the WD discovery SW didn’t work on the Win 7 machine, I can see the MBWE from both machines. In addition my PS3 can see it ok.
I went into my Pc’s iTunes local music folder and copied all music artist folders into the shared music folder of the MWBE. I have also copied approx 4500 photos into the shared pictures folder.
Now if I open iTunes on either PC I can see a Shared library called Mybookworld. Both PCs are using iTunes 10.0.1.22
However if I select Mybookworld in iTunes, it say ‘loading Mybookworld’ for approx 3 seconds and then goes back to displaying my local iTunes library. I can’t access Mybookworld and see my music.
Help!
It’s as though the iTunes server on MWBE is running and that iTunes sees it, but that the Itunes server on MWBE can’t see or serve any music tracks or library.
I’ve power cycled the drive and also reset it, but with no effect.
I’m having this same problerm with the new My Book Live external drive 1TB. I put all of my music into the public/shared music/ folder and the drive will appear in my itunes underneasth “Shared” – but when I click onto the share, it flashes quickly then goes back to the “Library>Music” iTunes view. I’m using the latest firmware, the latest Itunes software and the settings on the My Book Live are set to share Itunes.
Similar problem, I have a 2GB My Book Live, and iTunes 10.1(54) on Mac OSX 10.6.5. MyBookLive appears under the “SHARED” section in itunes, but each time I try to play any of the files, in the MyBookLive Music subfolder through itunes, nothing happens. It can see the files but doesn’t want to play them
I copied the music files ONLY into the WDWB shared files and access them with no problem. Perhaps the problem is taking in all the other iTunes stuff?? Might be worth just putting a music file into the Public folder root just to see. Hope it helps.
having the same issue, i put all my mp3 files and mpeg 4 files in the shared folders. i opened itunes and i can the see the My Book Live in the shared section but my media is not showing up. Any suggestions…reset my book live, disable firewall etc.?..did any solve this issue yet
I am not an expert on this, but I followed the instructions in this article and it works perfect. The only problem I had to fix manually is the artwork, on some older albums I had from non-US sources. I had to copy paste the artwork into each song in ITunes and then it showed. Here is the link for the article: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to-a-new-hard-drive/
BTW, I am working wireless with two Macbooks, Airport Extreme, and the WD NAS drive attached to the Airport. I use Sonos music system from the WD drive, and it works perfect.
I sound to have the same issue you as you @ homeblue90 I can’t get the files to appear in the iTunes share area at all, although the MB World appears in the share area.
I only spent 5mins last night playing, so haven’t really trouble shot it yet…
But I did read in the PDF manual (on the train this morning so not checked yet) that there’s a timer setting in the advanced config area, that looks defaulted to 5 mins, and it “syncs”/checks and updates your virtual iTunes library.
So I’m hoping this is the main stumbling point, that the virtual iTunes library on the WD World Book is not built yet…
So my plan tonight is to: copy the tunes over,… go get a cup of tea… come back and see…
