Just installed four WDBAAY0010HNC-NRSN in my HP xw8600

I just acquired a refurbished HP Workstation xw8600 and decided to add 4 1T in two striped RAID volumes.  The drives are constantly clicking.  I’ve tried both the SATA & SAS ports (SAS preferred).

I’ve since learned this is an 8 second sleep timer in the Green drives.  Had I known I would have bought different models.

The clicking is both annoying (minute by minute) and disturbing (long term reliability).  At this time I am temporarily without my collection of tools due to the failure of my 1T volume on my previous workstation.  I don’t wish to download my backups twice if I’m destined to recreate the RAID volumes.

Looking for suggestions that can be executed on a new clean Windows 7 Professional install.

Thanks in advance.

Hi well I can only tell you what WD recommends the green drive’s are not meant for raid they are not even recommended as a boot drive. They are meant for a second storage drive. So I guess it is up to you if you keep them or not.

I disabled the parking feature of my Scorpio Blue with HDDScan. You create a .bat file that runs on startup and it stops the parking feature. Give it a try, you can use it on all four drives since HDDScan sees all drives, so it’s not something that is a blanket application for all drives. You can pick and choose what features run on what drives.
