Log on to remote EX2 using Mac OS Finder

Hi

I use Mac.

I keep a remote backup over the internet of certain of my data to my sister’s house, on a WD drive attached to a WD EX2 Ultra. We have a mirrored system, ie her data is backed up across the internet to a drive attached by USB to another EX2 installed at my house. Because she uses a PC the WD software works well for her. But on a Mac it doesn’t for me.

I’ve become convinced the easiest way to do what I need is to mount my drive using the Mac finder, and then use one of the many pieces of sync software available for Mac.

You can do a remote mount with ftp drives and so on. What protocol should I use here? And how do I go about it?

To stress, my data is not on the remote EX2 Ultra, but on the USB drive attached to it (I have tried getting support on this question before, but people tend to assume I want to backup to the EX2 itself).

Thanks

Paul

Hi paul_r_h,

You can try filezilla and configure ftp on the device.

There are many limitations with Mac I found while using my NAS with MacOS. I switched to Windows last year and everything is fine for me.

That’s helpful, thanks. How would I find the ftp address of the USB drive that’s connected to the remote EX2 Ultra?

Paul
