Main folder using Plex

New user of the My Cloud Home but knowledgeable user of previous NAS device. I’ve read through the forum and didn’t see an answer to my situation. I realize this isn’t actually a NAS unit so Im still learning to see if it will work for me. What I need is an easy way to upload pictures (auto or manual) from a mobile device to a the My Cloud Home that I can then view on the app as well as on my Sony Android TV. The way I did this with my old NAS was easy as it showed as a UPNP using native media player on the tv. What I’ve read and seemed to experience is that the My Cloud Home isn’t native DLNA compatable without using Plex which seems very odd. The only way I can get the My Cloud Home to be seen by the tv is to use Plex. Admittedly I’ve never used Plex so I may be missing something but after a day of attempting to configure this I don’t think the setup is able to do what I want. The way I would like this to work is:

  1. Upload pics to a folder titled “Our Media\Photos”
  2. These pics are automatically able to be added to the Plex library
  3. Pics can be viewed on mobile app or on tv

The best I can see is that pics can be uploaded directly to Plex but only using the Plex default folders. It seems you can’t rename these folders, even the root Plex folder. When I’ve changed the name using the My Cloud app, it changes from a Plex folder to a standard folder that isn’t found when trying to update the Plex library.
Sorry if this is confusing, I may be better off taking this back and just getting a USB3 external drive and plug it into my router. At least that is seen by the Sony tv and I can used third party apps to upload and manage.
Any tips or comments on what Im trying to do is appreciated
Thank you.

So I thought I would try forgoing Plex and use the My Cloud Home app on my Sony Android TV. Well, surprise, the apk isn’t listed on the Sony Play Store! So, I sideload the apk like I’ve done with other unlisted apk’s and I get it loaded…surprise…it doesn’t launch. This has got to be easier than this!!! I think the Home is going back home to Best Buy…
