Maintaining Connection to Essential HD

My 2.0TB “My Book Essential” external HD was working fine for a while, but lately it only shows up connected for a short time after plugging it into the power outlet. It stays connected long enough to begin a back-up process, but shortly disconnects and gives me an error window saying the drive was ejected improperly. I purchased the drive in Feb of 2011 and connect it up to my Mac Desk Top running Leopard. I’ve since upgrades to Snow Leopard. I also back up a Mac pro with the same operating system and I’m having the same problem.

Check the cables on the drive. Make sure that they are properly connected to the wall outlet and the USB cable to the back USB ports.

Also test the unit with a different USB cable.

As a recommendation, make sure that you have the information on a different place as well before you start testing the drive.
