A week ago i recieved following error mail (translation from Dutch, so standard message in English can be different):

Title event:SMART-disk error
Description of event: the self check of the disk failed. Contact customer support
Impact: crit
Event code:0003

Firmware version: 02.42.02-012
LED was green, sometimes blinking (returning to blue has been an exception during the 14 month I had it).
Could not access it anymore from pc in the network.
Restarted and led turned blue, after 20 seconds yellow/white and stays that strange color (this was not the indication of missing network connection).
Contacted customer service via website. Called me back within 24 hours ![]()
Advised RMA, but my data would be lost. Advised third party data recovery service. I contacted one of their preferred suppliers: €700,- minimum…
I swapped the 2 disks (A>B and B>A), took out one disk. Both same behavior as described above.
I have 3 questions:
- Can I recover data from the drives easily with sata cable to my Windows PC ( I have little knowledge of Windows, and no knowledge of Linux or Unix)
- Using their Advanced RMA procedure, can I receive a new MBLD, replace the disks, and assuming not both disks are broken, my data will be available?
- Can I buy a MBL (not a Duo) for less than 100,- and put one disks from my MBLD in and read my data, assuming the disk is not broken?
Thanks for your help.
