Menu's Files?

I am burning home video DVD’s for grandparents etc and burning HD Movies separately to put onto my NAS for my use.  I would like to be able to burn a file for the NAS which would play as DVD (with menuing, chapters etc) via my WD Live Streamer, but this either cant be done or I’m too stupid to work it out (my money is on the latter!)… The NAS is a synology DS211J if that helps…

Any clues welcomed

rip to .iso image and the SMP will play it just like a dvd player would.

Thanks for the reply… any recommendations for a freebie to rip to iso?

I used this http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm and created a .iso from the files created on my PC (pointed it at the top level directory which seems correct). When I try and play it on the wb live streaming it says “browse error, content no available”… if I try it on my previous wd live (version 2) it just says invalid file format… am I doing something wrong?

Why WD name there boxes so badly is beyond me… I have 2 of them

WDBAAP000NBK-02 - which is the non wireless one with the USB on the front, this one says invalid format

and

WDBGXT0000NBK - which is the WD TV live streaming box (wireless and no USB on the front) - this one has the “browse error, content no available” error

Trying to find the specs for each of these on the WD site is proving very tricky but I can’t see where either say .iso?

Just use DVDFab, free ripping after trial. We have no idea if your iso recorder makes ‘correct’ iso’s

Hi, the iso I created mounts and plays via virtual clone drive… should that mean it plays on my WD boxes?

I can’t see the option to create an iso in dvdfab… do I just create a vob

To the right of the target source at the top are two boxes, the first has a folder symbol on and the second has a sheet with a blue disk on it, click this second one and click OK.

I assume you mean that it mounts and plays on your PC, this unfortunately is no guide to if it will play on the WDTV. Software players are more forgiving of errors than hardware like the WDTV.

Sorry yes that’s what I meant. I’ve now found the option to rip to iso in DVDFab but get the same “browse” error. Any ideas?

I’ve burned the ISO to a physical DVD now and that plays fine in my cheap DVD player… are we sure that the wd live plays menu’d isos with full functionality?

Took the DVDFab iso on an external hard drive and plugged it into the USB connection… menuing etc all played fine… so why does this not work streaming from the NAS… firmware issue?

Do you stream by a media server, or do you have file shares? If the first one is your case, your media server may not support iso files.

If you use network shares your ripped iso should play perfectly OK with menu’s etc.

The WD sees the synology and I just use it… do I need to set up a file share instead of using the sysnology media server?

Well you could try it. I can assure you that iso’s play OK from a NAS via network shares.

Bingo… thanks works a trear
