Moving Data from My book to My Cloud

Hi can anyone inform how transfer my files from my My Book to My Cloud Nas device??
**Thanks in advance **

Assuming they are both connected to your router, and both set up, then simply map both of them into your computer’s file system, open your file manager, and simply copy files from one device to the other, just like you would with any disk drive.

If you haven’t set up a user and Shares on the MyCloud, it’s probably time to read the user manual.

How does one map the devices using the file system, NAS isn’t my field of expertise

See p23 of the user manual.

What computer are you using?

Im using a Mac OS X 10.10

I have a similar question, only I’m using Windows 8.1.

How do I migrate my nearly 2tb of data from my old MyWorld NAS to my new 6tb MyCloud NAS?

Or, more to the point how do I do it in the fastest most efficient manner?

Can I connect the new drive to the USB port of the old drive and do a direct copy?

All suggestions are welcome!

Well, duh Ralph! There is no USB port on the My World. Nevermind!

My MAC has a Thunderbolt port. The quickest way I’ve found is use a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter and plug the MyCloud directly into it. Then the other drive into a USB port. Use FInder to copy & paste.

Turn off Media streaming, cloud access, itunes in the Dashboard before doing a large copy. When the copy is finished you can turn all of that back on.

Fastest for 2TB? You’re looking at probably a minimum of 8hrs probably closer to 16.

Do a google search for ‘robocopy /MT’ it is a Windows DOS command that is very efficient.

You’ll speed things up considerably by shutting off all the options in the MyCloud before you start.

If you just use Windows Explorer don’t start multiple copy jobs; that just slows things down. Move all of your files on your MyWorld into a single folder then copy them all at once to a single spot on the MyCloud or let one batch finish before the next copy.

If you don’t want your PC tied up for an entire day or more depending on your network you could SSH into the MyCloud and use copy or rsync commands and just let the MyCloud chug along for a few days to copy the files.

Excellent tips and prompt response! Thanks!
