Moving from an EX2 with Raid 1 to an EX4 with Raid 5

Hi,

I currently have a My Cloud EX2 configured to raid 1. I’m running out of space, so I want to buy an empty EX4 and an additional two red HDDs to create a 4 disk EX4 that runs in raid 5. How would I deal with transfering all the data I currently have on my EX2 to an EX4 with the new setup (barring in mind that 2 of the 4 disks will be the same ones as the EX2 with the data on them). Hello, i have not tried this, but lets see if another user can help you out with some tips and information on this matter.

EXT4 needs to start off with virgin disks.  So the first step will always be format drive.  You need to find a temporary home for the data on the two existing disks.

Go to your local tech shop and temporarily purchase enough storage to hold your data.  Return once you are done.

So I’d need to set up the EX4 with fresh disks to run in Raid 5. To transfer back all my data to the EX4, Would I be able to throw in my drive with my data into one of the slots on the EX4 and have it rebuild all the other drives that way? Or would I have to manually select and copy all of my data from the data drive to the EX4 via my computer?
