Moving House with my WD MyCloud - setup tips for Samsung TV?

Hi Guys,
Just a bit of background on where I’m coming from, and what I’m aiming to achieve… I’ve recently (<1yr) moved to the US from the UK, and have been living in a rented condo since then. I’ll be moving into our new house in mid September, and have been getting things ready so it all works from the start. I had been using an old ‘unsmart’ LG, which I had my MyCloud connected to via PC. Now I have just invested in a smart Samsung, and have the MyCloud connected to it via wireless to the TV, and all is working fine, albeit not particularly attractive.
I have a WD TV Live also, which I bought a few years ago, and works fine, updated no problem, but is now disconnected and sitting in the spare room in a box. My question is, what is the best way to stream my media from the MyCloud? Should I stay with the Samsung UI, which doesn’t look that great, and is a bit clunky, or is there a better way to set it up? When I select the MyCloud as an option, I end up having to navigate through files/media/tv series etc. Is there a better way of doing it? The WDTV looks more glossy, but is that necessarily the best way?
Any help / advice on how anyone is approaching this would be appreciated. I love the functionality of the system, but just wish it looked a bit better…
Thanks in advance
Ash

This is up to your personal needs. There are advantages and disadvantages in a per-case basis ranging from user interface to compatible codecs and anything in between.

Personally, I prefer dedicated media players since I prefer hardware-decoded playback over DLNA Media Servers.

Asking on a Samsung forum might get more answers…

IME, ‘Smart TV’ is pretty poor. although things are improving with genuine Android installations on newer devices.

In which case, I’d say it depends on what resolution media you intend to play, and which device supports that better. Bear in mind that you can get 4K Android media boxes for very little cash these days.
