Hi,

Can some WD techno dude help here?
My 2TB passport portable drive NOT mounting even in Disk Utility! The drive itself is making a whirring, clicking sound and I’ve tried using different USB cables and a double USB one for extra power in to my 5k Retina Mac. But, it still doesn’t mount.
I really don’t want to resort to spending loads of ££££££££ to get all my files extracted but I may have to!

Hello,

I recommend you try on a different computer. If you still have the same issue then I believe the drive may be damaged and needs to be replaced.

If you have to recover the data on the drive, I recommend contacting a data recovery company

Data Recovery Service Providers.

I’ve already tried a different Mac, several intact and no luck. Thank you for the link I’ll look in to the data recovery. But, Id rather see what other options are first.

This may not sound good, but I am afraid your hard drive has failed. That whirling, grinding or clicking noise is an indication of physical damage done on the surface of the HDD. Nobody wants to spend hundreds of dollars on data recovery. However, you may not have any other option. Since DU couldn’t see it, I can’t say to create a DMG file of your HDD. You may try another PC (through HFS reader) or Mac, but it may not get detected at all.
