Well I have a WD Essentials 2TB 3.0/2.0 usb external HDD and connection port on the HDD is broken and was wondering if there’s any way i can get the data thats the on the hdd because i have some really important files on there i need to get from the HDD, Also i dont have it encrypted (Password Encyrpted) so can i get the data off the hard drive if its not encrypted?
If the drive has Smartware the data is hardware encrypted whethere you used it or not. About the only chance is to go to an electronics repair place and see if they can solder on a new port. Even if you get the drive connected internally and recognized the data will still be encrypted. Opening the drive viods the warranty.
If your drive is still under warranty WD can replace it buy the dont have data recovery services, if you wanna recover your data I would suggest you to take the drive to a data recovery company or, search for a data recovery software.-
Well what would i exactly ask for if i take my HDD to an Electronics Repair shop to fix the connection port on the HDD and what type of connector is it?

If the drive is still under warranty I would not recommend to take to a repair center
Its still under warranty but the case broke open dropped by accident a while back so i think that VOIDS the warranty so im not even going to waste me time with warranty. Also if need be ill just buy a new HDD and replace the part but thats my last resort. I contacted my local data recovery place here and they said they can do it but at a fee of $350 which i dont have so any other ideas thats recremended?
Ok… that’s a different story, since the drive dropped and is already open, that voids the warranty as well, so take Joe_S advice and take it to a repair center to change the usb port on the drive…
Since you dropped the drive, there is a good chance that the drive is damaged. I would definitely get the data off the drive, asap, if you can get to it after resoldering the USB port back on. If you can’t get the data, you will be stuck with data recovery.
