My Book External 3TB drive showing only 0KB

Hi,
I have seen some threads discussing this but I have a 3TB My Cloud running the latest FW in which I have tried to add a My Book 3TB (1230) but failed as my external drive is showing as having 0KB of space.

It is formatted to NTFS, I have reformatted it and CHKDSK → Ejected USB etc it as this is one step I found that should have solved the problem but hasn’t?

Can anyone help?

I apologise if this is a commonly solved problem but I am finding it hard to find a solution that works for me.

Thanks

As a troubleshooting step, make sure there is only one single partition on the My Book external drive. Sometimes the My Cloud will get confused if there are more than one partition on a USB hard drive and will mount the wrong partition.

Hi,
Thanks, i have already checked this and can confirm that it is only a single volume.

Ok, I solved this by using MacOS to format the external disk to Journald (I am using for TimeMachine Backups anyway).

This is a infurating issue that WD need to find a standard solution for!

The drive should be reformatted to ntsf do this you will get working drive.

i ment ntfs this took 2 days. now i’m glad to share ,someone should tell wd so they won’t waste our time with bull!

Formatting anything via windows 10 is the issue for me. So exFat or NTFS wouldn’t work. Formatting via a Linux system such as MacOS solved my problem. I spent days trying and reading posts about this.
