My Book Live 2TB loses connection

Same problem here, my My Book Live is up and running with three services: ftp, afp and nfs. After a reset all services are back (and I can reach the dashboard) but, after some time, (within an hour?) there are three services left. My router is a Cisco EPC3928 placed by my isp. Send an email to WD but no reaction until yet.

Hello,

Have you tried setting the unit with a static ip for a more steady connection?

Yes that was the first thing I did after I  connected my MBL. Even gave it an IP number outside my DHCP range.

Hi All,

I have my “My Book” drive for more than 6 years and it was working fine, without any problems, until now. I have been using it as a network share drive (Windows OS only) together with the FTP. I also had additional USB drive (also WD) attached to it.
I have a static DHCP set for this drive.

Symptoms:

  1. Cannot access mapped folders
  2. Cannot access it via “My Network Places” (either via it network name or IP address)
  3. Cannot access the Web GUI
  4. Can ping.

There is no Firmware upgrade for my drive as it is pretty old one.

In my case, the problem seems to be with the WD Anywhere Backup software that comes with the drive. Once I booted a laptop that has the WD Anywhere Backup installed and configured to create a backup on My Book drive, then connection to the drive was lost.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Shut down all PCs that have WD Backup software installed
  2. Reboot the My Book drive and wait until it is fully up (up to 3 min)
  3. Test connectivity to the drive from other devices
  4. Start the PC that have WD Backup software installed
  5. Check status of the Backup. In my case I had a message that the backup destination is not available (or something like that)
Note: if you have more than one PC with the WD Backup software installed, try to identify which one is causing problems.

Solution:

  1. Disable network connection on all PCs that have WD Backup software installed and it is causing problem (see Troubleshooting section).
  2. Shut down that PC.
  3. Reboot the My Book drive and wait until it is fully up (up to 3 min)
  4. Test connectivity to the drive from other devices
  5. Start the PC that have WD Backup software installed but still without the network connection.
  6. Open a WD Backup software and pause all your backups
  7. Enable network connection (at this step, I connected my laptop using LAN cable)
  8. Create a new, very light Backup in the WD Backup software. For example small text file or similar)
  9. Activate all other Backups and wait there complete while you are still connected via LAN cable.

These above steps helped me. I hope they will help you.
Good luck!
