My Cloud and iOS7 optimization?

Hi,

Prior to upgrading my iPAD 4 to iOS 7.02, I was streaming videos from my MyBookLive to WD2Go (My Cloud) over WLAN without any problem. These are all Standard Definition AVC MP4 videos encoded (x264/MeGUI encoder) with a profile specific for iPAD 4/iPhone 4S. Since the iOS upgrade I’ve noticed that these video files take longer to open and resume after seeking (buffer lag), sometimes freezing and with video/audio going out of sync; in other words, they are struggling. Also on downloading these files to the iPAD sometimes the download does not complete; never had that problem before. And there is nothing wrong with my WLAN bandwidth.

Seems there is some kind of connection stability issue.

Has MyCloud been optimized for iOS 7? I can see no mention of it in the version 3.0 update change-log and I am seeing the same problems with this update.

Also in the update I see that file thumbnails have been introduced for My Cloud and other third party cloud storage accounts, but not for MyBookLive. Why is that?

Hello,

Seems to me that Apple changed something on the new iOs 7 that is affecting the compability, you will need to wait for a new update on the applications that improve the compability.

Which I find surprising coming from a large corporation like WD, who would have been aware of the impending release of iOS 7 and given opportunity to test their apps in the beta environment to ensure that they were fully compatible and optimized.

And my query about the thumbnail feature? Not everyone is living in the ‘Cloud(s)’.

I too am having the same issues with the WD MyCloud app crashing almost constantly. Also…is there a reason that WD modifies photos uploaded to the MyCloud drive? I.E. why does WD strip off the geolocation data? WD should probably warn people about that. I was about to use the MyCloud drive to archive my iPhone’s camera roll. I would have been seriously angry to lose the geolocation data.

Yes, My Cloud (WD2Go) definitely needs optimizing for iOS7.

Another FTP app (File Explorer) I use with video playback capability, which also suffered from some of the problems I described, has just been updated with iOS7 optimization and now streams these video files very smoothly, again. No buffer lag whatsoever.

I use Photosync (FTP transfer mode) for uploading Photos from Camera Roll to my MyBookLive. Very fast.

I might add that both of these apps display thumbnails for photos stored on MyBookLive. Can’t understand why that’s not available with the My Cloud app.

I’m running into similar crash issues on my iPad Mini iOS 7.0.4. MyCloud App crashes when uploading a video file with a size > 400mb. It seems to work with smaller files. It also crashes when uploading multiple photos at once.

I agree that WD should have done a better job with QA of this app. Please provide an update!
