I just purchased a 4TB My Cloud Personal Storage device.
The Google Play Store will not let me download the MyCloud App. It says “Your device is not compatible with this version”. I own a Samsung Galaxy S7 android version 7.0
The WD app from the Windows Store can be downloaded from my laptop but does not recognise my device
What is going on here? I’ll definitely be returning my product if this non-sense continues
I assume you mean Google Store not Windows Store since WD discontinued support for the WD app on Windows phones a while ago.
In any event you may want to see, if you haven’t already, the dedicated subforums for the mobile apps to see if others have had similar issues and if there is a resolution. You can search using the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right.
For local network access to the cloud, from android or pc, you do not need the WD apps. Just use whatever file manager you run on either device.
On a PC, map network drives.
On Android, point your file manager at the SMB server.
For remote access, you can use MyCloud.com via a browser.
For the windows WD app, go to the download area on the WD site.
Tell me extacly what page it tells me how to set up a password so that when
using my android phone to access the Mycloud folder I’m prompted for that
password
If you don’t want to be helpful and want to continue to insult me, I will
print off a copy of your last response and email it to the head office of
the major retailer that stocks your product and cite it as the reason why I
want to return the product and that I wouldn’t recommend this product be
stocked due to inadequate product support
NOT everyone knows how to use computers well, be considerate of that
Please note that this primarily a user to user support forum. Most of the people here are not employed by WD. We are users just like yourself who came here for one reason or another and stayed to try to help others.
If you want to speak to an actual WD support person than contact WD support through the support Link at the top of the page.
You can find information in the my cloud dashboard help which you can access using your mobile devices web browser to find more information on how to configure a share to private. In the my Cloud dashboard help go to: Home > Managing Your Personal Cloud > Share.
Or you can download the user manual the link that was already provided up thread from from WD support. When you open that PDF you will see a table of contents. See chapter 6 managing shares starting on page 44 for more information on how to configure a share for private.
App works pretty well. You’re able to search your cloud fast and easy. The one feature missing is if you have a large volume of files stored in one location, scrolling can be annoying. Therefore, I suggest users break their files up and organize into subcategories. Also, I noticed if I move files around using cloud app, sometimes I have to manually refresh. Messenger sometimes shows task failed but in fact it worked. Morevoer, free version of app is available on the Tutuapp website. Please fix bug. *Activity to see transfer indicator must be manually opened rather than automatic. At best make this option
Something else you can consider but it will only work when on your local wifi is scanning for LANs in an app called ES File Explorer. I use this because it is MUCH more reliable and responsive than the WD MyCloud app which chooses when it wants to work at all with its perpetual loading icons for no reason. Use ES. There are ways to connect to the direct IP of the cloud and access it elsewhere but I’ve never been able to figure that out outside of the WD program. The windows version of the program, available here Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support is also more reliable than the mobile app, and it WILL work properly connecting remotely to your cloud form another location.
