I have WDMyCloudEX2 and it works fine. I can access via an app on my mobile phone, and I can map a network drive in Explorer on Windows XP. WD Discovery finds the drive, and I can configure the drive with no problem. I downloaded WD My Cloud desktop and it does not see my drive in my network. I proceed to login by the link to wdmycloud.com. It finds the drive and has my username in the dropdown. I click “Sign In” and it goes to a screen that tells me to “sit back while we connect to the device” but it never connects.
I have Windows XP with McAffee. I have the drive set to a static address. I have disabled the firewall to test, and I also gave full access to the WD applications when the firewall was turned on. I can access in Windows Explorer to the mapped drive, and from my mobile app, just not the desktop app. Firmware and everything is up to date.
I do not find a “Network Neighborhood” but I do see a “Network Places” and in here I see a “Public on WDMyCloudEX2” but none of the shares I created . On the mobile app, I see all the shares and “public.”
I just installed the desktop app on my Windows 8 laptop and it loads. Not right away thought. After I select my username, it hangs waiting to load, when I click cancel it sees my drive again and when I click the drive it loads properly. What I like about the desktop app is how fast it loads the thumbnails compared to my mapped drive in Explorer, and the fact that the desktop app shows all the shares I have access to without having to map each one.
I need it loaded on my desktop which in Windows XP. Any other suggestions? Does a WD team support in this community?
This is a User-focused Community. WD Staff members post once in awhile, but Users should not expect constant support since it would defeat the purpose of the Community. If you would prefer direct assistance then it would be best to contact WD Support.
Thanks, hoping someone here can help then. Though I can’t see how it would not defeat any purpose to have someone from WD to be a part of their own community.
The WD Community’s purpose is for Users to help other Users, to share their own knowledge and experience outside the scope and focus of WD Support. Users expecting for a dedicated WD presence or representative providing answers would defeat the purpose of User-driven support.
As such, WD Staff members are free to post (And not post) within the WD Community, and should not be expected to do so.
I loaded WD Quick View on my XP computer and it does not show any status, though I can see the drive running WD Discovery. If I load this on my Windows 8 laptop, it sees it fine. There has to be some difference between XP and 8, as well as Discovery and Quick View.
Sorry, I meant “Network Places”. You should be able, trying to recall from memory, go to your Network within Windows Explorer → Entire Network → Microsoft Windows Network → Your Workgroup → and the My Cloud should be listed. Double click on you My Cloud and it should ask for you login info and you can see any/all Shares/Folders/File, etc.
ON STEP CLOSER … THANKS! Your explanation triggered a thought, the word “workgroup.” When I set the drive to the workgroup I set on my desktop then I can now see the drive in Network Places. I was SO excited that maybe this fixed my problem with the desktop app, but it did not. The desktop app and quick view still do not see the drive, but discovery does see it and I now have it in my network places.
#1) When I click to find devices on my network there are no devices #2) When I try to login by the link to WDMyCloudLogin.com it hangs and never logs in #3) I decided to give myself another access code, then clicked the link to login with an access code, and it logged in. Now when I disconnect I still cannot login by #1 and #2 above, but I now have my device in my previous logins and I click and login by that link.
NOW, I am puzzled why this happens, but satisfied to an extent. My question then, am I logging in and access by this access code directly across my network or it is going out the internet and routing back to my network?
