My cloud ex 2 ultra maximum storage capacity and changing hard drives

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry to come back with this question that has been asked a few time in the last few years but I saw various answer that made me not sure of the right answer!

I have a My cloud ex 2 ultra with 2 RED WD 6 To inside.

I would like to increase the capacity by replacing the hard drive.

My first question is what is the maximum hard drive capacity I can put in it? I’ve seen differents answer such as 2x6, 2x8, 2x10 even 2x12. And also some information saying that above a certain capacity we should change the AC adaptor for a stronger one…

Second question, when I will change the hard drives, is there a way to avoid to reinstall all the application on it? I would like to avoid to have to remove all the file and program that are on the hard drive now and reload them again on the new one.
Is it possible to change first one drive, mirror the previous one that is still inside and than set up the second one?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello Everybody,

NIs there anyone that could confirm me the information please?

Thanks in advance for your help

I got a new EX2 Ultra and just for speed I used the adapter from one of my other My Cloud single disk NAS drives. I got the error message ‘Power loss detected’…
Since I started using the adapter that came with the EX2, I have gotten no errors.
They are built to take up to 2x10TB drives, so I don’t see why you would need a different power output. More so, newer HDD’s use less power and demand less on the system.
Straight off the mark I installed 2 10TB Ultrastar drives in my Ultra and they run fine.

Question 2
Applications that are installed generally don’t copy over to new drives well. For data safety I would copy all the data off the existing drive before you start tricking around with a new drive in the unit. Risky to work with original data !!
