I have been at this now for a full day fustratingly and no closer to understanding why i have this issue.
Spent 4hrs with WD support and no resolution.
Essentially I can see my shares on my mobile device. I can even access the shares through the WD My Cloud desktop app. But for the life of me can’t see them in windows file explorer.
So what i have done so fat is:
- Restarted Mycloud from dashboard and also unplugged and replugged in
- Restarted both computers - so tried and tested this on two computers.
- Reformatted one computer to see if it was computer
- restarted services that My Cloud depends on
- Contacted support - they made me do the same things.
- I have reset admin password and also tried a few other users.
- I have checked share access rights
- checked cloud access rights
- and mostly followed all advice i could find on the subject in the forum.
- Changed and trialled different credentials in the credentials manager.
When i put one of the shares onto public access - it appears which is odd so makes me believe this is not a firewall issue.
I am ruuning windows 8.
Please help anyone! I use this for work i do so its important this works for me.
What happens if you try to access the root of your WD My Cloud by typing \wdmycloud or \theIPaddressofyourWDMyCloud in the Windows Search box in the Start Screen?
I am having the same problem as Mphyssas
MyCloud is running and i can acess my files, on my Iphone app, but not on my computer.
When trying to find the mapping, the option isn’t avible.
Also tried What you suggested Trancer , but still same problem.
Both of your suggestions, said the folder was empty.
But i know i have 20 main folders.
I tried theese options.
-
Re install every MyCloud things.
-
Re Clean install my computer.
-
Trying to map everything on my network (mapping mycloud is not possible) (this error happend after the last two updates i’m sure of that)
-
Running Windows 8.1 Pro
Not sure if it’s staying working, but after “clean install” of my computer, to 8.0 and then “system” restart on WD MyCloud, it apperes that i could map the network as long as i don’t put a password on the main admin account.
I will update to Wndows 8.1 and then try re mapping, and then set a password on my main admin account, to see if that’s the problem.
Edit, when i restart my computer, only a few of my shares are working.
The others wont get online.
I found out that in the latest update, i can’t take off “public” share, if i do that, i lose acess to the network drives, on my computer.
Do you see MC under networks in Explorer? I assume you do since you can see some shares.
Have you tried mapping manually? (map network drive in explorer)
run windows powershell and type the following;
net view
what do you see?

it says location not available. looking deeper into it and trailing a few solutions i found in the forum i am thinking it might be a user issue - looks like it has blocked all users from accessing it. Fustratingly i can’t work out how to reset the credentials to allow me to re-enter new credentials to see if it is a user issue.
The problem seems to have started when i added a new user and tried to delete another one. May reseting users will solve it but reluctant to do this until i have tried a few more things.

I can see the MyCloud but can’t see the shares. When i make a share public then i can see it. I then take it off redo access rights and still can;t see it. leads me to think its a user issue then not a share issue.
you can try
net use
ex:
net use s: \wdmycloud\jamalaya mypassword
will map drive s to jamalaya share with password mypassword (your share password if any)
might well be user issue

i get the network path was not found. This makes me think it is a user issue. I tried with 2 users.
Ok - so not much as a solution to the problem but more of a resolution to the problem.
I did a system restore only - which resets the configuration and was pleased to see that after adding users and sorting out all the remote access stuff I’m back in business.
Unfortunately it is difficult to determine what the problem now but my hunch tells me it was an issue with users as i wasn’t able to delete two users which suggests there was a issue there.
It would be nice to have a more intuative diagnostic tool that can identify an issue like this. As it would be useful to have an over-ride button to delete buggy user details. Might be one to add to the want list.
Thanks for all your comments and support. This issue for me anyway is resolved.
I tried both things listed in the powershell, and i’m not able to connect to shares.
I managed to map my shares, but each time i restart my laptop, the shares “disconnect” and i can’t re connect them.
Did a system restore, and that only fixed the users.
in powershell try adding
/persistence:yes
flag at the end of the command.
if at anytime you want to delete the share do
net use /delete
where sharename is the drive letter or name you gave the share when you created it.

Try uninstalling all WD programs and apps on your laptop. Then reboot and reinstall programs - see if this resolves issue.
I did some tweeks, and it seems to work for me now.
But not sure what caused the problem.
Same here. None of my shares are visble on windows explorer. and all my user access was previously screwed up when I created a new user.
I seem to be having this issue as well.
I’ve tried:
•Rebooting (WD CLOUD & PCS)
•Changing the WORKGROUP
•Changing saved credentials
•Resetting the shares public access
•Resetting the user permissions
Okay, so I picked up this 4TB WD My Cloud Storage Device last week. I went in and set everything up initially (users, shares, permissions) and then mapped the folders successfully to my machine. I tested on another machine to make sure the permissions were restricting access to shares properly and that worked.
Then I checked on some settings on the NAS (going to call the WD My Cloud a NAS), and found that I needed a firmware update. Cool beans.
After the firmware update the device still shows up on the network in explorer but none of the shares are found or accessible (even with manually inputting their location).
I read through this and a few other articles and have applied some solutions with moderate luck (well kind of).
The WD My Cloud app that you can install connects nicely and all the folders that the user has permission to seem to show up all right. It also works a lot like explorer and isn’t too difficult to work with.
Back to Windows Explorer though. The only way I can get explorer to recognize the shares is if I forsake the permissions I have set on them and change them to public access. I’ve found no way around this and believe it is due to some issue in the latest firmware.
That’s my bit. I need to discuss with my users if they are going to be alright with the app, and if not then we will likely return the drive and go with another NAS solution. There is no room for extra downtime in the hope that they will fix this goofy issue.
I am having the same problem. I have no made any changes to my pc or user accounts.
It was visible 4 days ago and now I cannot access anything on the drive via Windows Explorer. I can see it through the desktop app and the app on my phone.
I’m running Windows 7.
This is very frustrating!
same issue as above.
Running Windows 10.
home.mycloud.com seems to work (although files are not up-to-date with last back-up performed).
but MyCloud doesn’t appear in Explorer Networks (the way it did until yesterday - and NOTHING changed since then on my side
).
Suggestions welcome, thanks !
A bit worrying to have a back-up which seems to be running on- & off-… Not exactly secure !
