I have the WD My Cloud. Trying to understand the difference in the SmartWare folder and the folder with my name on it in the WD My Cloud folder. These are the folders on my computer in the WD main folder.
Also when I open SmartWare and it comes up the 4 drop choices like SmartWare and the name of the folder with my name it along with Public and TimemachineBackup. What is the difference between the Smartware folder and the folder with my name on it?
Also when I use my phone and use the app (WDMyCloud) the only folders I see are the Public one and the folder with my name. I don’t have the same options (folders) as I do on my computer.
Out of the box the My Cloud has the following folders; Public, TimeMachineBackup, SmartWare.
SmartWare: the default folder used by the Smartware backup program Windows users can install. Each computer’s SmartWare backup is stored to a separate folder within this Smartware Share.
TimeMachineBackup: the default folder used by Apple Macintosh Time Machine backup.
Public: the default folder that is always Public and which cannot (officially) be set to Private.
If you are using Smartware you will want to read the Smartware User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/wdsmartware/um.asp) to fully understand what Smartware is, how it works, and how to configure/use it.
For remote access WD has decided to block access to the SmartWare and TimeMachineBackup folders.
You should really read the My Cloud User Manual to understand what Users and Shares are, how to create them, and how to set them to Private. Once a Share is created a User can then store files/data to that Share.
