My Cloud VERY slow

New user. I am getting VERY slow speeds.

Running an iMac with Airport Extreme router. Uploads taking ages.

So I checked with Disk Speed Test from Black Magi Design.

Write: Around 5 MB/s and Read around 7 MB/s.

I am new to this and very disappointed.

How are you connected? WiFi? 100Mb ethernet? Gb ethernet?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, should have explained that.

There are two examples.

First, WiFi connection. That is where I am getting the speeds I posted. I know WiFi id slower than wired, but it also means movies are constantly buffering on Apple TV.

The second issue is transfer from a USB 3 external drive connected to the WDMC. It took about half and hour (or more) to copy a 5Gb file from one to the other.

Cheers.

Is the My Cloud connected to a Gigabit port on the router?

What is WiFi speed? WiFi is quite often slower than a wired Gigabit connection.

Where are you transferring the media to when accessing that USB 3 external drive connected to the My Cloud? If copying from the USB drive to your PC then it may experience the same slowness due to the WiFi or if not using a Gigabit network connection.

If transferring data from the USB drive to the My Cloud then slower than expected USB 3 speeds is a common issue with the My Cloud and one that has been complained and discussed in previous threads that can be found using the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right. The My Cloud User Manual (https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904) recommends that if transferring a large amount of data from a USB drive to connect that drive to your computer and then connect the computer (via Gigabit networking) to the router.

Hi colin90210,

There are several factors which may affect the backup speed. This is described in the link below:
