Hi,
I am using this modem for quite some time 3 months now. I have issues with frequent disconnection of the internet connection over wifi. I initially thought the issue was the with modem and changed my modem. Still issue persists. I tried a different router with the same internet connection and I never faced any disconnection. So the problem is definitely with the router. If I do any one of the following steps then the internet connection is restored:
- Disconnect the cable between router/modem and plug it back in
- Power of the modem and turn it on again
- Power of the router and turn it on.
The weird thing, is when the internet connection is not working, the pages I already visited works fine. For eg: The VOIP device connected directly to router works fine always. Even during the outage. If I have my Gmail open in a browser it works fine. Only the new pages I try to access never works.
One more info, I tried connecting the laptop directly to the modem using LAN cable, but it is of no use.
Could some one help me with this issue. Is there any one who is having/had similar issue.
Regards,
Ram.
Good evening,
Many others, including myself, have been going through some of the problems you talk about. That being said, I need to know which firmware you are using. I had all kinds of problems with 1.05 and all previous versions but I found 1.06.18 to be quite stable as long as I had FastTrack turned off. I am now using 1.06.28 with FastTrack turned on and so far so good.
Cheers
I am getting frustrated. The internet gets disconnected every three minutes. For posting this message I had to restart the router 8 times.
I am using the firmware 1.06.28 and as per your suggestion I enabled FastTrack on. But still the same issue exists.
It’s bad that many people are having the same issue. Hopefully WD will fix the issues.
I suggest that you try a router reset. This will erase all of your current settings and you will have to start from scratch or reload your config.bin if you saved it.
Cheers
I had the EXACT same issues you describe with my DSL. Had something to do with the DSL modem firewall/ and being double nat’d - not ure thats a real term. By that I mean the VOIP andthe WD Router are double NAT your connection to the internet. Lukily the really clueless phone company had not locked down the modem and I was able to update its firmware and the DNS servers to use google public dns: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/
Try testing with out the VOIP to confirm. Ultimatly I switched to coax cable provided intenet for cheaper, faster and less headaches. YMMV.
Thanks. I have resetted my router and disconnected the VOIP from router.
I will keep you posted whether that resolved the issues.

Ram.
Is the VOIP Oooma by any chance. I currious if you move it behind the router how well it works with and without fastrac. THANKS!
No… The VOIP is UNOVON. I tried moving behind the router earlier, but that didn’t help.
After the suggestions and trial&error I did the following. The connection seems to be more stable now. It is been more than a day since I noticed any drop. I will keep updated.
- Reset the Router
- Disable wireless 5GHz
- Set the channel of wireless 2.4GHz to 11
- Disable FasTrack
- Restarted the router
Now I also have the VOIP connected to the router. No Drops
:)

Ram.
