I have a problem with my HDD. It fell quite hard, I connected it to my laptop and it doesn’t recognized it. I opened the Device manager and it asked to reinstall the driver, I did and know I can see it there, but in the disk manager or windows explorer I can see it. Do you know why is this happening?, it seems kind of odd that it is being recognized in one place and not in the other.
Device Manager and Disk Management have two different purposes, the first one shows peripherals that the computer understands as being connected, while the later one displays the information on storage devices if the storage devices are indeed working well enough to be recognized on disk management. They are independent.
This means that your passport may have problems on the platters or the mechanism related to storage if it’s not seen on disk management after the fall. It can be that something is broken inside the case or the mechanical hard drive itself, you’re most likely in need to dismantle the drive to see if it can still work when the drive is connected directly inside your computer…
